Thierry Cattant, the “grand monsieur” of Illustration

Thierry Cattant was born in Marseille, France, in January 1975.

He draws since very little, and he believes that it was because of cartoons that he watched at the time, because he had the chance o grow up with Scooby-Doo, Captain Caveman… and of course with Japanese cartoons like Grendizer, Captain Harlock…

After studying Graphic Design (Visual Communication Degree) and a passage in various advertising agencies, he joined in 2001 the illustration agency “Agent 002” and became full-time illustrator.

His inspirations are mainly illustrations, advertisements, record covers, film credits, starlets, the atmosphere of Tati’s films, Hanna-Barbera cartoons, American soap operas, design and colors from 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

He likes what is elegant, simple, effective and funny, and all that, can be seen on his amazing illustrations.

His work is mainly digital, but first he draws on paper with lead pencil, then he works the shapes with illustrator, and finishes the colors with photoshop on his wacom tablet.

Among his clients for Publishing, Advertising Campaigns or Multimedia Content are Nestlé, Wilkinson, Labello, Gaz de France, Total, Tefal, Peugeot, Citroën, Seat, BNP, LCL, Axeria, SFR, Michel Lafon, Fleuve Noir, Marabout, Versión Fémina, Voici, Spirou Magazine, Alinéa, Delacre, Corsafirfly…

Also, some of his artworks can be seen in “Freistil – Best of European Commercial Illustration 2” (First Edition, 2005) and “Illustration Now 2” (Taschen Publishing, 2007)

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, preview of the world's first Riquiño Art exhibition at Susanita’s Little Gallery. ;D

Susanita’s Little Gallery, opening is really close, and it will be with an exhibition that is a tribute to the Roald Dahl book published in 1964, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

Thanks to the generosity of all the participating artists and to Susanita Little, the 20% of the exhibition sales will be donated to the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, a foundation set up by Felicity Dahl, writer Roald Dahl’s widow.                                        
This foundation, cares for young patients with Acquired Brain Injury, Epilepsy or Blood Disorders, in 46 hospitals, all around the U.K.  Also, provides direct help to families facing financial hardship when caring for a seriously ill child.

In this exhibition, are involved 14 very riquiños (cute) artists, from places as far as Japan, Canada, France, United States, China and Spain, who are: Ashlyn Anstee, Juan Bauty, Emanuel Bonchèr, Rozenn Bothuon, Betsy Bouer, Thierry Cattant, María Longa, Jose Luis Ocaña, Marta Anaïs, Neiko Ng, Pakoto, Israel Sanchez, Be Towers and Ryuku Uratsuji.

The artwork prices range from 50 euros – 300 euros.

Marta Anaïs and her dear monsters.

I can’t think of Marta Anaïs without being in company of her colorful and loving monsters portrayed in oval canvas. :D

Mr. Ness

Marta Anaïs was born in Madrid, in the bosom of an artist family, a rainy 19 of November from 1979. She remembers to drawing since really little, and on top of that her parents instilled her love for art, especially for artists like El Bosco, Patinir or Brueghel The Elder. She grew up watching and admiring Hammer and Murnau films which marked her personal artwork subject matter.

As it was expected with such good influences, her studies pointed towards those tendencies. So in the year 200 she studied Graphic Design at the Nuevas Profesiones School, and by 2007 she get the Design and Photography degree at Fine Arts in Complutense University of Madrid. Recently she has giving lecures as collaborator teacher at this faculty, and right now she is doing the Thesis to get her doctorate.

But her work as an illustrator dates back to the 2004, when a Publisher contacted her to make some illustrations.
In 2007, and after a three years time working with computer graphics in the papers, she decided to put on one side this facet to get fully involved into her illustrations.

She started then an unstoppable career being part of Publishing companies like Susaeta, Bruño or Libsa , the textile design company Toc de Groc, the paper Publico, and lots more.

Year after year, she designs the posters and some other merchandising for the Horror and Fantasy genre Cryptshow Festival, in which she works actively.

But I want to focus on her more personal artworks.
With no doubt, As I told at the beginning, Murnau cinema and the Hammer horror movies, have left a mark that is reflected on her artworks, besides authors like Moebius, Ralph Bakshi, or Cris Grimly, but sweetened with Burtonians influences.
With them, she proagonized and shared with some other artists several exhibitions.
